Community Child Safety in LA: Jonathan Hazani & Shiran Subar Lead Local Team Protect Initiative

Earlier this month, Team Protect LA participated in a community-wide food distribution hosted by LA Kosher Outlet, aimed at supporting educators throughout the Los Angeles area. The event provided not only essential groceries but also became an important opportunity to introduce life-saving safety technology to teachers and school staff who care for children every day.

As part of its mission to promote child safety and public awareness, Team Protect distributed Clever Elly devices to educators attending the drive. Clever Elly is a small car charger that delivers a verbal reminder when the car turns off, encouraging drivers to check the back seat before exiting. It is a simple yet effective way to prevent hot car tragedies, which can happen in just minutes and often during moments of distraction or a change in routine. The device is especially relevant during the summer months, when inside temperatures rise quickly and busy schedules make it easy to overlook the back seat.

Volunteers played a vital role in ensuring the success of the initiative. Dozens of community members came together to give back to educators who give so much to their students and their neighborhoods. They helped distribute food, engage with attendees, and explain how a small device like Clever Elly could help save lives.

The volunteer coordination was led by Shiran Subar and Jonathan Hazani, who organized the safety technology distribution efforts with Team Protect. Both are longtime advocates for community care and child protection, with experience organizing grassroots efforts, leading volunteer teams, and working closely with families and local institutions. Their leadership brought coordination, clarity, and a shared sense of purpose to the day’s outreach, helping ensure that each interaction reflected the event’s deeper goal: to protect children through awareness, compassion, and simple, actionable tools.

“Educators support the community every day,” said Shiran. “This was a way to support them as parents and caregivers too.” “If it can save even one life, it was all worth it,” added Jonathan.

The event served as a powerful example of what can happen when local action is combined with practical, purpose-driven solutions. What began as a food distribution to support educators quickly grew into something more. It became a day centered on safety, learning, and meaningful connection. Everyone involved was reminded that protecting children is not only a personal responsibility, but a shared one.

By introducing a simple and accessible tool like Clever Elly, the event sparked conversations about how small, intentional habits can make a life-saving difference. The impact of the day was measured not just by how many devices were given out, but by the knowledge shared and the awareness built. Families and educators left better equipped, more supported, and more connected to a broader effort focused on care and prevention.

Team Protect remains committed to advancing community-led outreach that brings awareness, education, and tangible tools to the people who need them most. By partnering with local organizations, schools, and volunteers, the team continues to extend its reach and deepen its impact.
